WARSAW, Sept4, 2006 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- Nearly 300 Polish soldiers from the 1st tank regiment of the 21st Highlander Rifle Brigade left the southeastern city of Przemysl on Monday for the peacekeeping mission in Kosovo.
Poland's PAP news agency reported that the soldiers, officially farewelled on Monday at a local stadium in Przemysl, will replace the Polish force from the Polish-Ukrainian KFOR battalion to maintain public security in the region of Strpce, Drajkovce, Kacanik and Globocica.
The Polish soldiers together with a Lithuanian platoon will be stationed at the U.S. Bondsteel base.
Kosovo has been under UN administration since a NATO-led bombing campaign in 1999 forced the withdrawal of Serbian troops from the province. UN-brokered talks are underway to decide Kosovo's future status.
